The Spanish coach begins his new journey with Becamex Ho Chi Minh City FC determined to help restore the club to where it belongs while continuing to contribute to the development of Vietnamese football.
1. A new adventure in Vietnam. How are you approaching this second spell in the country?
I’m really excited about this new adventure. Returning to Vietnam as soon as possible was one of my main goals, and I’m very happy that it has become a reality. I come back motivated to continue contributing to the development of football here while also learning from everything Vietnamese football has to offer.
2. You’ve joined Becamex Ho Chi Minh City FC, a club that will compete in the V.League 2. What do you believe you can bring to the team?
We’re joining one of the biggest clubs in Vietnam. My goal is to bring hard work, professionalism and consistency in decision-making, while implementing an innovative methodology that helps develop players and allows the team to keep improving every day.
3. This is one of Vietnam’s most historic clubs, having won the V.League 1 title four times over the last 20 years. What does it mean to you to be part of this project?
It’s both an honour and a great responsibility. I know the history and the stature of this club, and that motivates me even more. I’ll work tirelessly to help bring success back to the club and give the supporters plenty of reasons to celebrate again.
4. What did you learn from your first experience in Vietnam?
I learned that Vietnam has a unique culture that deserves great respect. I also discovered that success comes from working together as one family, with everyone fighting every day towards the same common goal.
5. What sporting objectives have you set for yourself?
The objectives are very clear: to help bring Becamex back to where the club belongs and build a competitive team capable of achieving its ambitions.
